How to provide short term accommodation

Volunteers are essential to the services provided by York Nightstop Charity.

Volunteer Hosts provide accommodation through Nightstop projects for one night at a time. They offer bed, breakfast, an evening meal and the chance for a bath or shower to a young person aged between 16 and 25. Most importantly, they provide a safe place to stay. All young people are assessed for their suitability for the scheme before being offered accommodation.

Volunteering to provide emergency accommodation is enjoyable, rewarding and flexible. It can make a real difference to a young person's life. All expenses will be paid, and volunteers receive training and on going support.

To be a volunteer host, you need to live in Hambleton, Richmondshire, Ryedale and Scarborough or York and have a spare bedroom. You need to be good at relating to young people. All volunteers will be checked with the Criminal Records Bureau before they start hosting with York Nightstop Charity.

"It's good because you don't have to talk if you don't want to. There's no pressure at all, but I did decide to share some of my feelings with the people I stayed with and I felt that they really listened" Rachel
