How to offer long term accommodation
|
Volunteers are essential to the services provided by York Nightstop Charity. Volunteer Lodgings Providers offer longer term accommodation through the Safe and Sound Homes (SASH) project, providing ongoing accommodation and support for up to two years. Volunteers are matched with a 'lodger', a young person aged between 16 and 25 who would otherwise be homeless, but is not yet ready to live independently. Being a Lodgings Provider is both challenging and rewarding. It is an opportunity to build a lasting relationship with a young person, and see them progress to independent living. There is ongoing support from SASH project coordinators, and expenses (currently £125 per week) are paid.

To be a Lodgings Provider, you need to be good at relating to young people, able to offer practical and emotional support and prepared to make a commitment to providing accommodation and support for up to two years. All volunteers will be checked with the Criminal Records Bureau before they start providing supported lodgings with York Nightstop Charity.
