I need somewhere to stay long term
|
If you are aged between 16 and 25 and need somewhere to live longer term, our Safe and Sound Homes project might be able to help. It is a supported lodgings scheme, offering accommodation for between one month and two years in the homes of volunteers, who will support you and help you move towards living in your own place. Accommodation is only available in York. What do you mean by supported lodgings? Safe and Sound Homes (SASH) doesn't own any property but rents rooms from people who are happy to share their home with a young person and help then learn the skills they need to move into their own independent accommodation. So you have somewhere to live (lodgings) and lots of support. You will get your own private room, front door key and the use of shared bathroom, laundry and kitchen facilities. Usually there's a shared sitting room too. You can stay for up to two years - the length of the stay depends on individual needs.
What do accommodation providers do? It depends on what you need, but as well as providing you with a safe place to live, accommodation providers will be there to help you learn what you will need to live in a place of your own. This might be help with managing money, cooking, cleaning, shopping etc. They are happy to support you with college, work or training and are there as someone to talk to about the things that matter to you. They will also work with your own support worker throughout your stay and help you to move on to your own accommodation when you are ready.
